Page Layout using InDesign

  • Objective: Use Adobe InDesign to create pages for the digital print edition
  • Make a copy of the file, March_2021 template. Add your last name to the end of the filename.
  • Make a two, two-page spreads. This means a total of four pages.
  • Work on the following sections. Alexis-FAKE NEWS; Hadley-SPORTS; Araceli-NEWS; Diego-SPORTS; Bradly-OUR TURN; Chris-A&E; Kiley-STUDENT LIFE
  • Some pages have examples on them. You can use those or find your own. Before starting, get approval.
  • Be creative.
  • Use the pic placeholder for all images.
  • Do not delete ads.
  • Change the layout for each page or spread...Don't just do the same thing.
  • Captions: /Staff • Lowry Multimedia Communication
  • If caption is placed on top of an image it must have white stroke, drop shadow or glow on the text. There is a style for this.
  • Use pic place holder for pics, not the ad placeholder.
  • Vary the column numbers in stories. If the story on top is four columns then the story below should be three columns.
  • Also alternate fonts in headlines. Standard is Times and Arial. Others can be used.
  • Do not input word counts in headlines. Use Student Life Story, News Story, etc. If we know the story put that in.
  • Articles that are placed next to each other must have a line between them or a border around the entire story. If there is a border around it then there must be inset spacing of 0p4 this is in the Text Frame Options (CTRL+B).
  • Anything that is full width of one must be exactly 41p3 and left-aligned at 3p0. This aligns it to the left guide (blue line).
  • Place the page number for each story on the assignments sheet.
  • Input the page number for each ad on the assignments sheet.
  • Make sure tracking on stories is set to 0 so the word counts are accurate.
  • Do not leave old headlines or stories in.
  • Everything must be aligned exactly. Not just close, but perfectly.
